Summary

At long last, the legendary New York Times bestselling author returns with a heartfelt novel of womanhood, a wild heart, and the healing power of love。

Run, run, as fast as you can!

When life throws her one setback too many, midwife and young widow Tess Hartsong takes off for Runaway Mountain。 In this small town high in the Tennessee mountains, surrounded by nature, she hopes to outrun her heartbreak and find the solace she needs to heal。

But instead of peace and quiet, she encounters an enigmatic artist with a craving for solitude, a fairy-tale sprite with too many secrets, a helpless infant, a passel of curious teens, and a town suspicious of outsiders, especially one as headstrong as Tess。 Just as headstrong is Ian North, a difficult, gifted man with a tortured soul—a man who makes Tess question everything。

In running away to this new life, Tess wonders— Has she lost herself 。 。 。 or has she found her future?

This is not SEP usual style。 I wouldn't even really call it a romance。 More of a drama。 It was more a book about grief, mess, change and how you dig your way out。 Anyone who has had to do that will know how beautiful it can be when suddenly you find where you belong after a significant trauma。 That's what you feel after you finish this book。 I wonder what inspired SEP to write it。 This is not SEP usual style。 I wouldn't even really call it a romance。 More of a drama。 It was more a book about grief, mess, change and how you dig your way out。 Anyone who has had to do that will know how beautiful it can be when suddenly you find where you belong after a significant trauma。 That's what you feel after you finish this book。 I wonder what inspired SEP to write it。 。。。more

Wonderful characters and great secondary characters。 I really enjoyed this story。

That’s the fastest I’ve finished a book in a long time。 Addictive read。 Now to get back to this to do list

I really loved this。 No surprise there it’s SEP after all。 I just wish there’d been more Ian and Tess。 They needed more scenes with just each other and more conversation。

It was OK。 Three stars may be a bit over generous。I got all the way through it。I would have liked it better without the sappy romance novel type shmaltz。

This is actually my first SEP book。 After finishing I read some reviews and it turns out this is like the rest of her book。 I really enjoyed it, though。 I like the story, but do agree that some of the drama wasn’t necessary and the book could have been shorter。 That being said, I only put it down to sleep。

It was OK, but honestly, I expected a bit more。 More chemistry, more sexy times, more of that old SEP's magical glitter that I am not able to find in her books ever since Natural Born Charmer。 There were bits and pieces of old SEP in Call me Irresistible and What I did for love, but not as much as before。 And after that, it's all kind of dry and there is no more magic, that beautiful spark that she used to have is gone。 But still, she's a beautifully talented author and will always remain one of It was OK, but honestly, I expected a bit more。 More chemistry, more sexy times, more of that old SEP's magical glitter that I am not able to find in her books ever since Natural Born Charmer。 There were bits and pieces of old SEP in Call me Irresistible and What I did for love, but not as much as before。 And after that, it's all kind of dry and there is no more magic, that beautiful spark that she used to have is gone。 But still, she's a beautifully talented author and will always remain one of my all time favorite writers。 。。。more

I loved everything about this book!

I just happened upon this book at library, but as a former, long experienced women’s healthcare professional, it hooked me immediately! I’ve never read this author before, and I’ve gathered by reading some of the reviews, it’s a bit different than her usual offerings, but I loved it。 The characters instantly became friends, and the author did a great job with medical accuracy。 I have to be up early, but I’m writing this at 0030 because I had to finish before I could possibly fall asleep。 I thoug I just happened upon this book at library, but as a former, long experienced women’s healthcare professional, it hooked me immediately! I've been wondering when SEP would come out with a new book, so eagerly dived into this one。 Unfortunately, I often found myself getting bored with the heroine and the choices she made。 Still unique characters and an enticing storyline kept it moving along。Nurse, midwife Tess Hartsong has not been able to move on with her life after the death of her best friend and husband, Trav, so runs off to a small town in the Tennessee mountains to live in a dilapidated cabin, where she tries to deal with h I've been wondering when SEP would come out with a new book, so eagerly dived into this one。 Unfortunately, I often found myself getting bored with the heroine and the choices she made。 Still unique characters and an enticing storyline kept it moving along。Nurse, midwife Tess Hartsong has not been able to move on with her life after the death of her best friend and husband, Trav, so runs off to a small town in the Tennessee mountains to live in a dilapidated cabin, where she tries to deal with her anger by dancing outside in the rain。 Her closest neighbors are famous graffiti artist, Ian North and his friend, (wife?) Bianca, who is very pregnant。 Ian is the son of an abusive, wealthy man and a mother who did not protect him, and has also fled to the mountains for peace。 His peace is shattered by Tess's presence, who he is attracted to from day one, so of course, he pushes her away。 But when Bianca goes into labor, it is Tess who must delivery the baby (she had wanted a baby, but Trav was never ready), and then Bianca dies from a very rare complication。 Ian hands the baby over to Tess, until he can find the baby's real father。 Will Tess ever be able to deliver a baby again? Can baby Wren help heal both of theses tortured souls? 。。。more

Amazing characters and plot surprisesThere are lots of storylines, but all weave together to paint an amazing portrait of families loving, hurting and healing。 Life is messy, but there is joy in the little moments and details!

I liked this book but didn't LOVE it。 It started off really good and I just wanted to keep on reading it but then the middle got a bit bogged down in my opinion。 It picked up again at the end so that I wanted to see what was going to happen。 I think the book could have used more of SEP's trademark humor for the characters it was at times soooo serious。 I liked this book but didn't LOVE it。 It started off really good and I just wanted to keep on reading it but then the middle got a bit bogged down in my opinion。 It picked up again at the end so that I wanted to see what was going to happen。 I think the book could have used more of SEP's trademark humor for the characters it was at times soooo serious。 。。。more

I did not love this book。 The characters were a bit over the top - Tess too far into grieving, then too obsessed with Wren, too sure of herself when dealing with other people and then not at all sure of herself in her profession。 The women she worked with were too rude, the townspeople too insular, and Ian too aloof and then too needy。 I couldn't get a handle on these people, because I find life much more muted than this。 Certainly, there are always "moments" that are extreme。 It just didn't see I did not love this book。 The characters were a bit over the top - Tess too far into grieving, then too obsessed with Wren, too sure of herself when dealing with other people and then not at all sure of herself in her profession。 The women she worked with were too rude, the townspeople too insular, and Ian too aloof and then too needy。 I couldn't get a handle on these people, because I find life much more muted than this。 Certainly, there are always "moments" that are extreme。 It just didn't seem real to me, so it was a disappointment after reading all her other books。 Perhaps a second reading will change my view。 It frequently does。 。。。more

Enjoyed this book。 Just a feel good book with a predictable but good ending。

This was quite a hard-hitting contemporary but as always with Susan Elizabeth Phillips I absolutely enjoyed the writing as well as the story。 I could understand the characters and I loved the setting in rural Tenesse。

Lisa Benton

Easy read, I really like the story line。

Not my most frequent genre, but I needed a break from my favorite one, WWII fiction。 This was the perfect book for that。 Well written, good humor, good romance。 And after seeing Susan Elizabeth Phillips interviewed recently, I think she’s probably one of the most fun people on the planet!!

I just love babies, man。

This one started off strong but it fiddled out quickly for me。 I really enjoyed the characters in the beginning and how it was going to be a deep story。 But then after the first twist it went down a storyline I just couldn’t get behind or connect to。 I enjoyed the writing style and the pacing, just not how the plot unraveled。 It all just seemed too forced and unrealistic。 There wasn’t enough time to foster any romantic connection so when something happened I could only roll my eyes。 I listened o This one started off strong but it fiddled out quickly for me。 I really enjoyed the characters in the beginning and how it was going to be a deep story。 But then after the first twist it went down a storyline I just couldn’t get behind or connect to。 I enjoyed the writing style and the pacing, just not how the plot unraveled。 It all just seemed too forced and unrealistic。 There wasn’t enough time to foster any romantic connection so when something happened I could only roll my eyes。 I listened on audio and quite enjoyed the narrator。 。。。more

The best Susan Elizabeth Phillips has written! I've heard that this book was so different from the other SEP books and not to expect anything as good。 Instead this book shines with all the traits we've loved in her other stories: real life, strong though flawed characters, incredible sparkling dialog, and romance that settles in the deep parts of the reader's heart。 This book makes her other wonderful books seem superficial。 Dance Away With Me is the diamond of all SEP can write in a book - but The best Susan Elizabeth Phillips has written! I was so lucky to receive an advanced reader copy of Dance Away with me。 This was the first book of Susan’s that I have read, but it surely won’t be the last。 I loved all of the characters, the unique storyline, and I was sad to be finished。 Wonderful story。

Nancy

Good story。 I listened to the audiobook and the reader did a great job。

A disappointing read。 This story was lacking the normal charm and wit of a SEP story。 Tess became hard to like。 She was rather sanctimonious and forceful in certain situations。 And what was with the angry dancing? Her connection to dancing was never really explained and it just seemed like the author wanted the word dance in the title。 The writing also felt outdated especially with Ian often referring to Tess as 'the Widow Hartsong'。 A disappointing read。 This story was lacking the normal charm and wit of a SEP story。 Tess became hard to like。 She was rather sanctimonious and forceful in certain situations。 And what was with the angry dancing? IDK。 Can I give zero stars? So, so 😞 disappointed。 Cannot understand the 4 Star rating。 I mean- 1st of all, who in their right mind would think a grown man of 36 that spray painted graffiti like he did when he was a thug kid would be a catch?! Second- Susan Elizabeth Phillips let me down。 This was sooo not what I expect from her。 I looked forward to her books release dates but, this book was dull, no character charisma, storyline was a complete disaster。 I could not connect to the characters at IDK。 Can I give zero stars?
